Autumn's In The Air

The best part of waking up                                                 when there's a chill in the air...
It's here.  It's always bitter sweet for me because there's nothing I loathe more than putting away my flip flops and replacing them in my closet with my Uggs.  It's bitter for many reasons including the one I just mentioned.  Sweet, because Autumn is actually my favorite season.  Why is Greek Girl yapping about the coming change of season when the world appears to be imploding before our very eyes?  Well, I can't write about politics every week. Besides if I don't take a break my noggin might just spontaneously combust.
Growing up in Upstate New York it is not hard to understand why I love fall so much.  It is one of the most beautiful places in the Northeast.  We have Lake George, the Adirondack Mountains, Niagara Falls, and many more amazing destinations to experience. There are always festivals, farmers markets, hot air balloon shows, the Pumpkin Farm, Hayrides, Oktoberfest (which I don't really even do because Greek Girl doesn't like beer), apple picking, caramel apples, candy apples, apple cider, pumpkin pie, apple pie, cinnamon donuts... ut oh I better stop before I make myself hungry.
My favorite thing... Pumpkin Dunkin's.  That's right, every year around this time my favorite coffee brand in the whole wide world Dunkin Donuts rolls out it's fall fare.  So every year I march my Greek butt down there and grab as many bags of the Pumpkin coffee as I can get my little hands on.  Of course the trick is to get out of there without getting a Pumpkin Muffin or donut.  I do have an iron Greek will - yes that is true.  I will admit however that as strong as that will is, there are times when I do get one and make my sweetie eat half.  (the things he does for love).
Of course there are many other reasons that I love fall, one I get to dress my fur babies up in a costume every year for the yearly "March of Shame" as Punkin (my talking dog likes to call it) see her video here.  Of course it's also the time of year when Bath & Body Works rolls out the fall candles & scented plug ins, they are so yummy smelling!  Makes me want to just grab a cup of hot Pumpkin happiness, put on my favorite sweats and slippers, grab my sweetie and fur kids, and curl up to watch Animal planet.  Oh who am I kidding?  We all know it's going to end back up on the news.  Hey... I have to make sure I don't miss anything.
Have a beautiful day!
Blessings, Love & Music ~

Apocalypse Now in New York

Why is our Doggie Mama building an Ark?
We're just like other packs of dogs.  We think a good belly scratch cures most ailments, peanut butter and rawhides are super foods, a good roll in the mud never hurt anyone and we don't mind a little rain here or there. However, today in New York the rain has been anything but there...it's been all here! Listen folks, we're not talking about a little sprinkle, it's been rainin' so flipping hard, little BoBo stepped in a poodle. Stepped in a poodle. Hello, can anyone hear us? hello, (tap, tap) is this thing on? We're using our "A' material here.
This wicked rainy weather normally wouldn't have even bothered us enough to get up from our naps to investigate, let alone worry about it. However something's not right here in the Aston house. Yes, that's not very easy to say when you have Ava Aston as your Doggie Mama, with her messed up Greek noggin and all. There is always some sort of muckery going on here. But for reals, this time something is really wrong.  And you know we are really good at predicting earthquakes and full moons. But not so good at predicting an upset stomach in time to get outside or which pair of sneakers we should chew on and not chew on. Our bad. So with our canine senses wound up as tightly as Ava's sinuses from her allergies, we feel that there is something going on. There has also been other several clues:
Clue #1
The other day when it started raining so hard our Doggie Mama was going around the house singing , "It's Hammer time, It's Hammer time." At first we just thought she was having a bad VH1 flashback or something. But Punkin said it was secret code for "It's time to build an Ark." Punkin is so smart.
Clue #2
On the calendar hanging in the kitchen Ava took a red felt pen and drew a giant red circle around May 21. She said it was for her concerts in Pennsylvania that day.  Oh really? What a convenient cover story. Those Greeks are so coy.
Clue #3
We were reading some of Ava's blogs from the past week and realized she had posted this:Judgement Day is May 21
Clue #4
We overheard Mr. Bricks tell our Doggie Mama that this rain was nothing, he was once in a really big flood when he was much younger.  We know Mr. Bricks is old because Ava calls him Old Man Bricks and were just trying to figure out if the flood he is talking about was about 7,000 years ago. Coincidence? We think not.
Hello, look at the calendar people it's almost May 21rst. Is there something Ava doesn't want to tell us? We're not stupid we're dogs, not cats! So, not only is it almost May 21rst, it's raining really bad and we think Ava singing "It's Hammer time" is all part of a secret plot for something more sinister, like perhaps the end of the world.
Here's our conundrum, we think the rules of an ark are that Ava will only be allowed to bring two of us on board. I guess it's written down like that in the "good book"or something. Can we just say that's messed up? We realize that even if our Doggie Mama's life depended on it she couldn't decide to choose between the four of us. There is no way she could decide as to which two of us would go on a boat ride with her.
See, part of the problem is that she tells each one of us that we are the #1 dog of the Aston pack.  She does this by secretly whispering into each of our mite-free little furry ears and says that we are her #1 doggie. It's the old Greek bait and switch routine. Between you and us, she's not as good of an actress as she thinks she is, because we know how she is playing one of us against the other.
We love each other and we want to stay together.  We're such a good little pack Cesar Millan would be proud of us.  We don't want the world to end. We don't want to be split up where two of us would go on the boat with Ava and the other two of us would be left behind.
Are we reading too much into these clues?

La Niña is an old Spanish word for Crappy Weather

Rainy Days and Mondays
I’m just like the next person, I don’t mind a little rain here or there. However, this spring is not starting off on the right foot for the Greek girl's satisfaction. I already had to take Old Man Winter off of my Christmas card list for not being so nice this year and I am wondering if Spring and Mr. Sunshine are following in Old Man Winter's footsteps. I know it's because we are experiencing a La Niña year. La Niña is characterized by unusually cool ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific. It is the opposite of El Niño, which is characterized by unusually warm ocean surface temperatures.

Yesterday was gorgeous and today looks promising!! But I would like it if perhaps we could put more than one or two days in a row where the sun actually makes more than a cameo appearance.  I am an actress, the word cameo is an old acting word that means, really small part. I'd like Mr. Sunshine to have a major guest star role or better yet, starring role in our weather forecast. I'm ready for that movie.

The Aston Kids
The other day I was in the city and unlike the weather man saying the rain would be here or there, it was anything but there…it was all here! I’m not talking about a little sprinkle, it was a grab the hammer and build an ark type of continual downpour, that’s what I’m talkin’ about. Then later that night the lightning was so violent it shook the house.
All of this lousy spring weather has got me thinking…I have four dogs. I think the rules of an ark are that I’m only allowed to bring on two of each type of animal. Hmmm, that’s messed up. I realize that I couldn’t decide if I had to choose between my four fur babies, which two would go on the boat ride with me. Part of the problem is they all think they are the #1 dog of the Aston pack.  Maybe I don’t help that by secretly whispering into each of their furry ears that they are my #1 doggie.
They are such a good little pack. Maybe that is an added benefit of all these cold rainy New York days, is that they want to stay together! You know what? I don't need no stinking sunshine, because if it rains all spring, I’m staying at home inside, with a big cup of hot coffee and all four of my canine kids.
Let me ask you friends, have you hugged your doggie(s) today?
Blessings,
Ava
