Stand Up

Three words... Happy Greek Girl.
Three words... Happy Greek Girl.
It's no secret that Greek Girl rolls to the right. So I'm sure you can imagine when I learned I was invited to an event where Senator Ted Cruz would be speaking I was excited to say the least. In fact I was so excited I almost spilled my hot cup of Dunkin's all over my lap as I was reading the email announcing the event. No it wasn't a "thrill up my leg" but I'll leave that to Chris Matthews for when he's watching Obama.
Thanks to some good friends who arrived a smidge early we were able to get a table in the front and what an evening. First I have to say how down to earth he was. No entourage, no handlers, just him and a small staff. I'm not sure many people know this but he is actually very funny. Not only was he giving a rousing passionate talk about the madness that has taken over our great nation, but the entire time he was doing it with a smile and making everyone laugh. If ever there were a person who embodies the phrase "The Happy Warrior" it is Senator Ted Cruz.
Not only was he gracious enough to be there, and to stay for a log time, but he also took question after question after question. As I sat there listening I have to say something was happening. No it wasn't a thrill up my leg, but I began to see something very special. I'm not sure if other people watching him on TV can see it. I've caught glimpses of it before watching on TV myself, but as I sat there it began to grow in my noggin from a whisper to a scream... this guy is so much like Reagan.
Right there in midst of all the chaos, confusion and madness that has taken over Washington there is someone there who is speaking the truth, understands and respects the constitution and founding documents, but also most importantly has the backbone to stand up for his convictions. As the world saw when he did the filibuster against Obamacare regardless if the left wing media demonized and labeled him a loon for doing so. Why?... because he gets it. He gets a fundamentally simple thing that almost all of Washington has either forgotten or has been ignoring for years. The United States is a Constitutional Republic, the Congress and Senate are elected officials who are elected to do what? To vote the "will of their constituents". Too many elected officials get elected and then it's almost as if they get sucked into some sort of vortex where they do not vote the will of the people who elected them, but rather vote down party lines or whomever is lining their pockets.
So as I sat there listening, I began to have hope again. There has been so much fighting and tearing down in politics for the last several years, I like many have wondered will America survive? In that event listening to him speak I saw hope that not all politicians are bad and not everyone is a slick talker just trying to win votes. There right in front of me was a man who spoke so honestly and passionately about common sense solutions and ideals. I began to see that there is really something very special about Ted Cruz, and if the people in this nation get a glimpse of what we all saw at that event last night, there may very well be another revolution coming. No it won't be a Reagan Revolution like we had in the 1980's, I think it will be bigger, much bigger.
Back then we didn't have the internet, (Thank you Al Gore) bloggers, alternative news, and there were only three news channels. Now we have cable news and a plethra of technology to get information out in the blink of an eye. When the people in this country see what we all saw it may not be a revolution that is coming, it may look more like a Tidal Wave.
By the way my husband ran out to put his suit jacket in the car that was parked on the street out front later in the evening. The Senator had just left with his staff, and they were standing in front of the venue on the street just waiting. My husband said "hi" and asked them if they needed a ride jokingly. They said "no were all set." Were they waiting for a town car, limo, a driver?... Nope they were waiting on a cab. Senator Ted Cruz with his staff of three hailed a cab and were all going together in a cab to their hotel. So when he talks about living within your means, and common sense principals know that he doesn't just talk the talk, he has the courage to stand up and walk the walk.

Thank You Al Gore

Al Gore
Thank's Al. You're the best, no matter what people say.
So it's official (well sorta) that Al Gore the great and mighty inventor of the Internet has done it again.  What am I talking about? Well, in case you haven't been to the Northeast anytime recently it seems that, well based off the climate at least, that Al Gore has cured and fixed the Global Warming issue.  The problem is he did it just a little too much. Instead of balancing things out it seems he went slightly overboard.  Now instead of having a balance with all four seasons here in the Northeast we kind of have been having it all mucked up.  Goes in line with not having a balanced budget, so as a Democrat I guess in a way he's par for the course and since that's all Obama does is play golf it works for him.
Well since a little past this time last year we had the start to probably one of the most cold and miserable winters I can remember.  It went on and on and on so long I can't say I even remember having an actual spring. Then when it came to summer it was like we packed an entire summer's worth of heat into the month of July.  Then we skipped right into what is now and has been turning into an early and very wet autumn.
Now, anyone who knows this Greek Girl knows I love Autumn more than any other season, but really?  With as many rainy days we had this summer and now this? Hey Al Gore, can you chill out or rather warm up on this whole global warming thing?  It's like you turned the thermostat to cold and broke the dang thing off.  For crying out loud, the only time I got to put my bathing suit on this year was for an audition.  Now that is bordering on sacrilegious considering I never put my toes in any hot sand once this year let alone go swimming!!!!  What's even more is I can count the number of iced Dunkin donut coffee's I have had on one hand.  Which as you know is just bizarre in itself since last year I had like 20 of them every week!
So for this weeks blog I want to focus on my favorite things about the fall since it's coming so early and well at this pace if I don't act now before long I will be buried up to my eyeballs in snow drifts.  God knows, if there is one thing this Greek Girl hates more than the current occupant of the White House is too much white stuff on the ground.  No matter how pretty it is, it is dang cold and me and cold just don't mix, no matter how much olive oil I get in my veins!
1. Pumpkins.  Not only did I name one of my dog's Punkin' but one of my favorite things in the whole world is punkin flavored anything: coffee, donuts, pie, cookies and punkin rolls!!
2. Foliage.  If you have never been to the Northeast you have got to come in Autumn.  The magic of watching the trees turn color is one of the most amazing things that you never get sick of even after living here all your life.
3.  Hoodies (aka zip up sweatshirts).  Yes I do wear them almost every day of the year, but I do it all the more in the fall.  They are so much fun, cute and they keep me warm.  Besides I have like 2000 of them, I have to do something with them right?
4. Back to school.  You are too old for school and have no kids Greek Girl?  I know, but that means all the rug-rats that run rampant around town are back in school and I don't have to be bothered by them :) j/k I loooooove kids...  But no really, it just means Kohl's is running serious sales and clearance sales like mad.  So bring on the clearance rack please!!!
5. Running.  Not only is it the best feeling in the world when you go for a long run but when you have the crisp autumn air and the foliage to go with it, never mind doing it at magic hour in the fall, is just an amazing thing for me.  Besides, it is just one more reason I can wear my sneakers more.
So there you have it.  My favorite things about this time of year, that is unless Al Gore gets the bright idea and reverse things again and muck's things up more.  You know, if you ask me, maybe since he is so full of hot air trying to explain how he invented the internet that maybe that is what started the whole global warming thing anyway.  Oh well, one will never know.  Enjoy your punkin pie and have a blessed and safe Autumn.

90 Days of Summer

This is a serious amount of Muckery...
This is a serious amount of Muckery...
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this picture?  I mean it is pretty and all, that is if you happen to like snow.  Anyone?  Drumroll... This big fat pile of Muckery fell on Memorial Day weekend right here in the state where I live New York!  Um HELLO Summer, where are you?  Have you been kidnapped?  Are you being held hostage, there are plenty of people who are dying to see you, namely yours truly Greek Girl.

What in the heck in the World is going on with the weather lately? The 90 Days of Summer is supposed to be the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Does this look like Summer to you? Me neither...  By now we know that Al Gore and his compadres over at the Global Warming headquarters were wrong... but I'm beginning to wonder if they decided to somehow kidnap Summer in some new evil genius green scam.

Not my idea of Memorial Day fun...
Not my idea of Memorial Day fun...
Last Memorial Day it was about 90 Degrees, I had every curtain in the house drawn to keep the sun out, and the air conditioner blasting to keep all the Aston fur-kids from getting too hot.  This year I'm still sporting my Ugg slippers when I should be in flip flips by now.  Walking around bundled up like "Nanook of the North" and I'll admit I even considered turning the heat back on yesterday.  Good grief, this is just plain craziness.

According to the meteorologists we might go from Winter to Summer in one day later on this week.  I will be praying every single day that they are right until it happens.  Because I don't know how much more of winter I can handle.  This one day of having semi nice weather with sunshine then five or six days of rain with torrential downpours is getting really old!  Taking five fur-kids out to potty in the rain in just no fun if you know what I mean.

It's high time to Summer~ize things.  You know like Swapping slippers for flip flops, swap hot cups of happiness for iced cups of happiness and time to open up the sunroof already!  Please join me in praying for Summer to be released from captivity very soon!  Have a beautiful day!  Well as beautiful as it can be in cold, overcast, windy weather that is ;D

Change of Heart

Have you ever changed your mind?
Have you ever changed your mind?
Well maybe it has something to do with the fact that I came down with what feels like the bubonic plague two days before Easter and spent the better part of Easter Eve in the Walk In... I dunno, but whatever it is, I sure did wake up feeling different today.
Maybe it's the combination of the antibiotics, the inhaler, the Mucinex/Delsym for the chest congestion & couching, the Sudafed (to dry the fluid in my ears) the zinc lozenges, emergenC powder, the humidifier... all to treat the magic combination of Laryngitis and Bronchitis I have come down with.  All while being out of town visiting my mom for Easter (did I mention that part)?
So when I woke up I just had such a different take on things than I used to.  Normally I drink coffee all day long just about, and the day does not start until I have had a cup of Dunkins.  Not today... I wanted Green Tea.  Usually I watch Fox News, but today I started flipping through the channels and stopped on MSNBC, and you know what, I kind of liked it.  Now I know you guys might think I fell off my rocker when I tell you this but when I heard them talking about Obama and all the great things he is doing for our Country, I got to thinking... you know I don't think he's really that bad of a guy after all.
The next thing I usually do is workout, but today I just didn't feel like it.  You know what, I kind of liked it.  It felt great to not "have" to workout.  Then I went on my facebook page and I saw all the equals signs in my newsfeed, and it got me to thinking again... maybe they have a point.  Why can't gays get married?  I mean who are we to decide what God meant when he gave the Ten Commandments anyways?  I mean after all that was how many years ago?  Whose to say he hasn't changed his mind?
Then I decided I wanted to hear some music and so I went to iTunes wanting to try something different and downloaded a Beyonce CD.  You know what... it was flipping Awesome!  I don't know why I never cared for her before... I can't believe I used to say that when she sang she sounded like a dying dead screeching off key cat.  Then someone emailed me a video from this week's American Idol episode and I said what the heck, I'm going to click on it.  Now I'm hooked, I think that show is brilliant!  It's just too bad I'm too old and can't sing good enough to get on it.
After a while I felt like going outside for a bit of fresh air, and it occurred to me that Global Warming is so dangerous.  That Al Gore was so smart to alert us all to the horrors that are Global Warming and even the snow here in upstate NY is melting...  We really should do something about this, I mean make some more strict laws to protect the environment... Dontcha think?
By now if you have not figured out that Greek Girl is playing a Humungous April Fools joke on you, then I m sorry for scaring you. No worries people, your favorite Greek Girl next door is still a Bible loving, Gun Rights Supporting, Constitution defending three percenter.  So if you ever hear me talking like that then either I fell down and hit my noggin Real Hard... or I got kidnapped and brainwashed.  Either way, hope you have a happy April Fools day!  Now lets pray Old Man Winter has died for the last time this year!
Blessings, Love & Music ~

Internet to Close for 24-Hour Maintenance

Internet Maintenance Announcement
Internet inventor (?) Al Gore and the current Internet Powers-That-Be are at it again.  They have initiated a yearly maintenance to the internet that will shut it down for a 24-hour period from April 5th, 2011 23:59 EST (11:59 PM) until 00:01 EST (12:01 AM) April 7th, 2011.
Apparently the Internet must be closed down for this 24 hour period of time in order to receive maintenance, or like I just did with my house a "Spring Cleaning" if you will.  Many dead links and abandoned websites on the World Wide Web will be removed, as well as ftp servers that are no longer used. Lost email will also be removed from the system at this time. No surprise, the White House is very interested in this part of the project.
In addition to the normal maintenance that is required they are using high pressure information jets to clear out the bottlenecks that have plagued the internet so greatly this past year. Although the down time for maintenance will cause muckery and be an inconvenience for many people, we all should find a much more efficient and faster internet after the maintenance is done. This will allow people who do not legally buy my songs from iTunes or my website to now illegally download my song mp3's much more quickly.
During the "Spring Cleaning" dozens of powerful Internet bots at key locations around the globe will simultaneously scan the Internet and complete the desired maintenance jobs wherever they may be required. During this time Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube will be systematically scanning their sites for people who haven't yet added me or "liked" my pages yet and they will be deleted.
To help protect any valuable data you may have on the Internet from possible corruption, The Blond Greek Geek highly recommends that you take the following steps before this 24 hour maintenance period begins:
1. Disconnect all terminals and LANs from the Internet.
2. Disconnect all Internet servers from the Internet.
3. Refrain from connecting any computer, or any *other Internet connection device, to the Internet in any way.
4. Have a cup of coffee and relax.
5. Go to McDonald's and have a nice McRib meal with your family.
6. Unplug the toaster (just in case)
7. Read a book (yah, right)
* The term "other Internet connection device" includes such devices as WebTV, XBox, Wii or anything that connects to the internet for its data.
Again, I understand the inconvenience this will cause many people as they will not be able to read my blog for that day.  However, the great increase in Internet performance you will all experience, after this short period of maintenance will far outweigh any thing that would have come from my Greek noggin and that I would have written that day.
This message comes to you as a belated April Fools prank from Mr. Bricks. Ava is busy filming her new music video "GONE" but will be back to this blog tomorrow!
Have a Happy Monday and thank you for your continued support of Ava and her career.
Mr. Bricks
Manager for Ava Aston

Does This Blog Make My Mouth Look Big?

Hard at Work on my latest blog

Since October of 2010 I have been faithfully blogging every day. It’s a discipline that is now a part of my life – like working out and eating healthy. Most everyone knows that Greeks like to talk. It’s written into our DNA that not only do we  like love to talk with our mug, we also love to talk with our hands. Something happens in our coconut when we are being born that makes us want to become the next Chatty Cathy.
But this desire to continually talk  comes with a price.  When I was just a little girl my 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Blanchard  safety-pinned a note to my little purple  jumper telling my parents that their little blonde Greek goddess appears to have diarrhea of the mouth in class. Those were the teacher’s exact words! Diarrhea of the mouth. I once had a boyfriend who broke up with me because he said I talked to much. He said he tried to break up with me on our last date but I never shut up long enough for him to say anything, so he sent me a break-up email. Nice.
And thankfully now after Al Gore invented the internet - someone invented the blog, or did Big Al invent that too? Blogs are great because it’s like I can talk and talk about anything and there is always someone willing to read about my Muckery. People all over the world can sit in their Ricky Ricardo pajamas with their morning cup of coffee and read all about my recent  Muckery. Most people seem to enjoy it. I guess what they say is true that misery does love company! But not all is so blissful in my blogosphere land. Many of my friends and family who are faithful readers of my blog and who also know all about my 2nd grade diagnosis of diarrhea of mouth are a little less enthusiastic and a little more leery. Last week my mom had a conversation with me that was just like any conversation between a mother and her daughter. Until about 20 minutes later my mom called me back.
My Mom:  “Ava I hope I don’t see what we talked about in your blog tomorrow morning.”
Me:  ” Yes, Mom, I understand your concerns.”
My Mom: “I hope not sweetie”
Oh the power of the blog.
As a card-carrying member of the entertainment industry I have a circle of people around me who help keep my career going. At the center of that circle is my manager Mr. Bricks. Because he is at the center of my Muckery, he is often the frequent target of my blogs.
The popularity of my rants about Mr. Bricks’ bad eating habits and my desire for him to work out like I do has  led to a very fun Saturday Morning Cartoon blog about the relationship between a singer and her manager. Although it is based loosely on what happens in my career, the Saturday Morning Cartoon blogs are a total send up of what really happens. Isn’t that what cartoons are all about? I suppose some of the things the character of Ava says in the cartoon to the Mr. Bricks character  is just stuff rolling around my noggin that I think is funny. If I really felt them or said them in person, then I think it might be a little mean-spirited and that is not how I roll. I am just a Blonde Greek Girl just trying to humor the one world one blog post at a time.
Recently my manager Mr. Bricks called me. Nothing too weird about that. But wait…read on, the Muckery ensues:
Mr. Bricks: “Hey Ava how are you doing today?”
Me: “Not much Mr. Bricks. So why are you calling me? Is it to tell me you have a record deal for me Mr. Bricks?”
Mr. Bricks: “No, I want to talk about your blog”
Me: “What about my blog?”
Mr. Bricks: ” I am glad you are writing it. I know you are Greek and I know how much you like to talk. Well Ava, it is kinda like you have diarrhea of the mouth sometimes”
Me: ”Are you going to write that in a note and safety-pin it onto my jumper?”
Mr. Bricks: “What?”
Me: “Never mind”
Well my manager Mr. Bricks went onto to say he was going to keep an eye on my blogs to make sure I don’t say anything inappropriate that could damage my career. Well, with that 2nd grade diagnosis I got and all, I guess anything is possible. The real creepy part about Mr. Bricks saying he was going to “keep an eye on my blog” is the fact that he has one lazy eye.
So as much as I love writing a daily blog, it certainly isn’t Muckery free. Thanks for being here day after day to read what ever comes out of my mouth.
Have a great day!
Blessings,
Ava

Internet To Run Out of Addresses

Ok, keeping with yesterday's blog post about the possibility of a Kill Switch on The Internet, today I am keeping my "Greek Geek Streak" alive by talking today about possibility of the internet running out of internet protocol addresses. It seems that when the internet IP addresses system was designed it allocated a system that could handle only 4.3 billion IP addresses.
What was Al Gore thinking? Hey, if the dude is taking credit for inventing the internet he must assume the responsibility when something major happens with the internet like running out of addresses.
Apparently, Mr. Gore forgot to figure in the 1,330,141,295 people of China or the 1,173,108,018 people in India. Adding and subtracting numbers has never been a strong suit for Al. Remember the October 2000 Presidential debate, when George W. Bush described Al Gore's economic figures as ''fuzzy math?''
It is estimated that the world is adding somewhere between 30,000 to 50,000 new internet addresses a day! That is just shy of the number of CD's I am selling per day.  (Greek Blonde Girl slaps herself on top of her noggin to bring her back to reality) I mean, I wish I was selling.
Like I have done with many other big issues facing the world-at-large, I have put my Greek coconut to good use and came up with a solution to the problem of the internet running out of addresses.
Here are my solutions to solving the lack of internet addresses:
  1. Any internet address that shows people in the underpants or anything less must give back their address
  2. Any internet address that deals with or plays gangsta rap music must give  back their address (Yes I realize #1 and #2 are many of the same sites.)
  3. Any internet address that talks about crap I don't like (they know who they are) must give their address back
  4. Any internet address that talks about hurting little animals must give heir address back
  5. Any internet address that offers free food or discount coupons for food to my manager Mr. Bricks must give their address back
The new system they are designing (or have designed) can handle 340 undecillion addresses. That's 340 billion billion billion billion different addresses.
Ok, all of this talk about numbers makes my head bleed.
Blessings,
Ava
